GLAM SLAM: Michelle Obama in a Rachel Roy Sheath at the State of the Union Address

The FLOTUS showed us all she could give high-fashion glamour in her Alexander McQueen resort look from the China State Dinner. And just as effortlessly, Michelle Obama can revert back to the look she made a closet classic: the sheath dress. (Raise your hand if her signature sheath is now a mainstay in your work wardrobe. Yeah, I can't be the only one!)

For the State of the Union address tonight, Michelle reminded us why we all love her sheath dresses. She wore a putty-colored, quarter-sleeved sheath by Rachel Roy that was clean, streamlined and chic.

I have to say, I just love the attention Michelle pays to the fashion world; minimalism is a major trend for the Spring 2011 season, and she's ahead of the curve.

Truly a class act, she always goes for style and sophistication during the State of the Union Address (she wore a plum Isaac Mizrahi dress with pearls last January) and I love her for it.

Proving that less is more, Michelle completed her look with a head of full, shiny hair, stacked lucite bangles, silver drop earrings and clean, natural-looking makeup.

What did you think of her dress?

New York Knicks' Amar'e Stoudemire Collaborating on Fashion Line with Rachel Roy?

New York Knicks power forward Amar'e Stoudemire has his hands full these days. His skills on the court (including an unbelievable jumpshot from 15-18 feet) are one of the reasons the Knicks are having their best season since 2001 (record: 16-12. amaze!). Prior to that, he graced the cover of ESPN Magazine in the buff.

And he is simultaneously putting his stamp on the fashion industry with approval from none other than Queen Anna Wintour. She invited him to the Fashion's Night Out fashion show this year (below) and he's rumored to be a Coverboy for Vogue soon. He also attended the Tommy Hilfiger show sitting side-by-side with Wintour (above).

Now, he's trying his hand at designing with a rumored fashion line with Rachel Roy for her diffusion line, Rachel Rachel Roy, sold at Macy's. The collaborative line with Stoudemire will reportedly launch in the Fall.

According to The Cut, they were seen lunching at NYC hot spot, The Lion and Page Six says they've been talking about it since September. Hmm, he does seem to love a good suit...but I've got to see the clothing line to believe it!

And as a huge fan of Rachel Roy's designs (who even quoted The Glamazons while promoting her jewelry line with Estelle), I hope Amar'e Stoudemire's design talent is as great as his basketball talent.

What do you think of the rumored line, Glamazons? Are Rachel Roy and Stoudemire a good fit? Are you excited to see the result of their collaboration?

GLAM OR SHAM?: Michelle Obama in Rachel Roy Floor-Length Velvet Skirt at State Dinner in India

Michelle Obama is an icon not only for her chic wardrobe, but for the intelligent point-of-view she brings to Fashion. Not only does she acknowledge trends in the market, she chooses designers that have cultural relevance to the countries she's visiting. Such was the case at the State Dinner in India.

Michelle Obama visited Rashtrapati Bhavan, or President's Palace, in New Delhi wearing an Indian-American designer, Rachel Roy. She wore both the "Dune velvet" skirt and "Sable Moroccan tunic" from Rachel Roy's Fall 2010 collection.

The long hemline only further accentuated Michelle Obama's tall and slim physique. What I loved most, though, was the combination of velvet and metallic; it's one of my favorite looks this season. The luxurious velvet texture mixed with a shiny metallic color just radiates elegance.

Rachel Roy's Fall collection was just that: a testament to Moroccan opulence played out in refined, streamlined silhouettes and plenty of sparkle and shine. Michelle Obama is the perfect muse for such a collection, don't you think?

Here, she paired the skirt and tunic with an embroidered belt for an extra sparkly flair. What do you think of her look?

And my love affair with Rachel Roy continues...

The way she bravely pursues her dream of designing and regularly empowers women is so inspiring to me. She is a true example of living out loud and now, she's celebrating women who do the same.

A Day in the Life: Estelle and Rachel Roy's In-Store Event Plus Estelle Performance Video!

Hey Glamazons!

There's no hiding the love I have for Estelle and Rachel Roy's jewelry line (and by the way, they love the Glamazons back!). So as you can imagine, I was first in line to attend their in-store Macy's event to check out the new Rachel Rachel Roy pieces and meet the lovely ladies behind the collection.

Little did I know, Estelle was going to give an intimate performance of her hottest records and I'd be right in front of the stage! Estelle sang her hit songs, Freak and American Boy for the crowd in a fashionable pair of green heels and a gorgeous necklace from the Rachel Rachel Roy and Estelle jewelry collection. Check out video of her performance below!

The only thing that gets me more excited than live music? Fabulous, affordable clothes. Rachel Rachel Roy's newest collection includes bright hues, safari-style jackets, tye-dye denim, painterly prints, studded blazers, leopard print dresses, jeweled sandals, buckled booties and more.

I DIED for this ring! Stunning.

And I spotted a clutch from Rachel Roy's charitable collaboration with Fairwinds Trading that was even more beautiful in person. What better way to give back in style?

And of course, the performer, Miss Estelle, and DJ brought the glamour. Love!

Pick up Rachel's amazing pieces available now in your local Macy's store.

The Glamazons Get a Shout-out from Rachel Roy!

Hey Glamazons,

We just learned that the Rachel Roy website picked up a quote from your favorite fashion/beauty bloggers! Yes, The Glamazons are quoted speaking about the new Rachel Roy and Estelle jewelry collection on the official Rachel Roy website, underneath a header that reads "Coveted by Fashion Insiders for Months."

The quote reads: "breathless anticipation for the debut of their jewelry line has only mounted - and with good reason" from our First Look! post.

Why is this a big deal? Well, true Glamazon readers know that I, Coutura, have been obsessing, following, praising and critiquing Rachel Roy's work since the blog started back in 2008. (I adore Rachel Roy's fashions, seriously...it's really a hopeless addiction that costs me tons of money at sample sales).

That said, I'm so happy the great people at Rachel Roy read our blog, and shared our thoughts with the world! So unbelievably cool!

Now if only they could send over that gorgeous velvet skirt from Rachel's Fall collection (hey, a girl can dream!)

FIRST LOOK! More Pics from Rachel Roy and Estelle's Jewelry Line

Yes, ladies. After months of waiting in anticipation (and a teaser pic of a flower ring), more pics have arrived of Rachel Roy's limited edition jewelry collection with singer, Estelle.

And the pieces are just as amazing as jewelry from Rachel Rachel Roy (her line for Macy's)...but this time, the jewels get an ubergirlie twist. The defining details? Purple and green crystals that jazz up hearts, angels, flowers and wings.

The verdict? A lot girlier than I'd expect from Rachel (after her edgy collection for Macy's) and Estelle, who loves pushing fashion boundaries. Yet the horn earrings and statement two-finger rings offer an edgy vibe while the "Feel Famous" necklace injects a dose of glamour. What do you think, Glamazons?

Shop the collection, which ranges from $32-$195 here.

Oh and though the new jewelry collection is sweet and innocent, Estelle's latest video and song, "Freak" is anything but. In the video, Estelle dances in blackface inside a flying crystal. Check it out below (it's totally my new summer workout song):

FIRST LOOK! Rachel Roy and Estelle's Jewelry Line

Hey Glamazons,
Estelle's first foray into Fashion, alongside celebrated designer, Rachel Roy, has come with much fanfare. Since we announced the collaboration in August, breathless anticipation for the debut of their jewelry line has only mounted---and with good reason.
Rachel Roy is a bright star in the Fashion industry with an eponymous line loved by Michelle Obama and a wildly popular diffusion line for Macy's.
Estelle is a stylish songstress whose fun, futuristic fashion choices won her a collaboration with shoe/handbag designer, Johnathan Kelsey and a spot designing a H&M t-shirt for AIDS prevention.
With Estelle's fearless fashion sense and Roy's exquisite eye for detail, we all expect great things to come from their collaboration. Their debut piece (below) doesn't disappoint. Showing traces of both Estelle and Roy's style, it's bold, beautiful and delightfully feminine.
Ever the social media maven, Rachel Roy has a special treat for her Facebook fans. They'll get the chance to shop the collection before it hits the general public through a pop-up Facebook store. The petal ring (above) will be sold exclusively through the Facebook store, which will run for three days starting February 9th.
The full collection will include a wide range of conversation pieces from stunning necklaces to gorgeous rings, ranging from $34-50.
Tell me what you think of the ring, Glamazons. Are you excited about this collaboration? Will you shop the collection on Facebook?
Kisses,

Barbie Wins Best-Dressed in CFDA Designer Duds

Truth: Though I died for Chloe Sevigny's ravishing ruffled Valentino dress at the Golden Globes and was reborn in Diane Kruger's marigold Jason Wu gown at the SAG Awards, my Best Dressed award goes to...Barbie.
Not only has she been around longer than any Hollywood celeb (51 and still looks fab), but she's a fashion favorite, having been styled my very favorite shoe designer in the world, Christian Louboutin.
Now, 12 of the CFDA's best designers are following suit, lending their superb talent to create fashion-forward Barbie dolls: Betsey Johnson, Rachel Roy, Isaac Mizrahi, Alexis Bittar, Justin Giunta, Tory Burch, Lorraine Schwartz, Philip Crangi, Devi Kroell, Kate Spade's Deborah Lyood, Monica Botkier and Albertus Swanepoel.
As part of the CFDA's partnership with Mattel, each designer was asked to add their signature touch to a Barbie doll in a Little Black Dress. (See my favorite above by the legendary Tory Burch).
With layered statement necklaces and sheer, dramatic skirts, the designers did that and much more. Check out some of the designs below. Barbie has never looked more fabulous.
Betsey Johnson - glamour meets goth in a sheer lace skirt and Minnie Mouse bunny ears!
Rachel Roy - polished and ever so chic, Barbie's ensemble inspired a top from Rachel Roy's Fall 2010 collection. Roy also noted the look mirrors the pieces First Lady, Michelle Obama, wears from the Rachel Roy line via Stylelist. Tres chic!
Justin Giunta - It's no secret that my favorite jewelry designer is Justin Giuta of Subversive Jewelry who is now design director of jewelry for Tory Burch. He makes wearing jewels a stunning, ornate experience as evidenced by Barbie's statement necklace here.
Isaac Mizrahi - Isaac Mizrahi is always classically chic with a studded minidress in black, a perennial fashion favorite. A light pompadour and slingback pumps are elegant, understated touches.
Monica Botkier - The Botkier woman is a diva in an embellished v-neck dress with a pink tie belt, a lavishly-wrapped scarf and that famous IT bag. Just fabulous!
Lorraine Schwartz - Beyonce's go-to brand for the red carpet, Lorraine Schwartz serves up bling unlike any other jewelry designer. Her Barbie lets the Accessories take center stage with sparkly earrings, bracelets and details (that 'B' for Barbie charm would make Kimora proud) that scream Hollywood glamour.
Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade - Designed by Deborah Lloyd of Kate Spade, Barbie's pearls, pumps and pink polka dot tote radiate Upper East Side sophistication.
Alexis Bittar - Alexis Bittar's entire lucite collection is strikingly beautiful. It dazzles as an accent to Barbie's glittering one-shoulder embellished dress and poufy red hair.
Devi Kroell - Leave it to Devi Kroell to dress Barbie in three statement-making, awe-inducing pieces: a studded fuschia bag with chain handle, a gorgeous, embellished cuff and those amazing metallic show-stopping shoes. Gorg!
These one-of-a-kind Barbies will be auctioned off on Ebay from January 28th at 10pm until February 7th, with a starting bid of $100. Proceeds will benefit the CFDA's scholarship programs and educational initiatives.
Glams, pick your favorite!
