The Isilon gear is phenomenal. Lot's of huge players using that gear including Facebook, ABC, etc.
I may be biased (EMC Partner), but I think that is a great choice.

All this stuff about "living under mum and dad's roof" is all well and good but it's not gonna work.
The guy is 18 and therefore you have no say in it. If you want to show him you trust him, make sure he is having safe sex (ask him "are you using a condom" - don't beat around the bush, it's sex, it's not anything to be ashamed of) and send him on his merry way.
It's time to let him make his own mistakes and decisions and the best thing you can do is to love and support him through it all. I was a good teenager, same sort of thing as your son - good grades (not that these mean you're a good person), nice friends, stable ideals but I found the sudden leap into adulthood one of the hardest things to do because I was suddenly in charge of my own life. My parents - though they vehemently opposed some of my decisions - supported me through them no matter what and that helped me to realise for myself my own interpretations of right and wrong and allowed me to grow as a person.
So don't treat him any differently, just make sure he knows the facts and is not doing anything unsafe, and let him go. There's no reason you can''t voice your disapproval but make sure he knows that this is his call and that you love him no matter what.

NO THANK YOU!!!!
We want lower prices!
Enough with offering more gimmick features for more $$.
Um, No. If you actually go through the process it will switch out your $20/month unlimited text with unlimited text and mobile to any mobile. No gimmicks.

I have only been folding with my GPUs since folding the CPU puts off way too much heat. Im hoping to have my air conditioning hooked up soon, it's all free since I work in the sheet metal/hvac trade :p
Hmm... I would have guessed that GPUs (not to mention 4:eek:;)) put off a lot more heat and power usage than a CPU at 100%.

during installation a note popped up saying 'cant continue as needs 512Mb minimum'
How'd you get round it?
btw, whats the verdict on ram coolers? yes/no
I borrowed a faster Mac, and used that to install to its HDD, I think it mayve had more RAM, then dumped the HD in my trusty eMac and let it boot. It wouldnt boot on 64MB though... I tried that xD

And people feel free to be as rude as they want, even bringing scat and other homosexual fetishes into a simple transfer of power to the second in command:
Dude my post had nothing to do with Scat or homosexuality insults of ANY kind.
My post was only specific to do with his mannerisms: triangular hand positioning (Jobs; and actors of V) the most noticeable. To me that is kissing arse; no need to copy that.

This is my first post. It takes a lot for me to stop being a lurker, but the idea that any user can resize a textarea on a site I design, dynamically redrawing the page, is among the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. This will break valid page layouts in new and unheard of ways. Designers make form elements a size and shape for a reason.
I look forward to finding a way using JavaScript to disable that feature the day that browser is released.
Wow, you must really freak out about cascading style sheets too. Bit of a control freak?
Look: the page design is for the benefit of the USER, not the designer. If the page looks like crap if a text area is resized larger than you expected, what's going to happen when a new browser comes out that uses a larger default font in the text area, or adds additional margin padding, etc? If that will make it look like crap, then that's your problem, not the user's!
The problem with text entry boxes in (so far as I can tell) every single browser out today, is that they are fixed width. I can have a nice big 30" monitor and want to be able to type a paragraph about this size in a single friggin' line of text across the whole monitor (more common is trying to convey source code in a text window; wrapping really sucks for source code). But, I can't, because the text box is default sized so that it fits without scrolling on my mother in law's 10-year-old 15" CRT set at 640x480. So, it's a little postage-stamp square on my 30" cinema.
The solution to date is that the user, if they're smart enough, opens up TextEdit (or Notepad), edits their text however they want, then cut/paste into the anemically-sized text box on the browser. The ability to skip the middle-app simplifies things tremendously.
One design suggestion (if Apple's listening): also provide some kind of a widget to "snap" the text box back to it's original size.

TomTom or Garmin wouldn't help Apple that much. Garmin and TomTom both license either Teleatlas or Navteq for road data and they don't have access to much else since most of their devices are "offline" devices. Google has used Google Maps to build up a lot of data (they currently provide their own traffic on Google maps by curating all the data from mobile GMaps users, etc). A lot of people are missing out on the fact that "maps" that people expect today is a lot more than just road data. Getting access to road data is not that complicated for Apple to obtain. The rest is very complicated. Currently Google is the leader in this and there really isn't a close second (although Bing is doing some innovative things in this area).
TomTom owns TeleAltas but they license their data out to everyone just like Navteq. That is their bread and butter.

You went back to school and you didn't learn how to bill or control a client? Your very first mistake was booking a $75 job with a 3 hour time limit. If that is all someone can afford, then don't work for them. In my experience, the cheaper they are, the more demanding they usually are. Your second mistake was giving the power to your client and not billing him for phone time. You didn't manage the job and you paid the price. I bet you didn't even have a signed contract.
It's funny how there's things in a University that are what I would only refer to as assume knowledge. Pricing, billings, building a cv and building a professional network are very much skimped over IMHO.
It wasn't until I started working in house as a creative I really got a good understanding of these processes, what I would suggest though is to buy this book. (http://www.amazon.com/Graphic-Designer-without-Losing-Expanded/dp/1568989830/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300700008&sr=8-1-spell)
Pricing, I cannot repeat this enough charge how you think you should be paid. 3 hours for a web site mock-up for $75 wouldn't get me out of bed, your undercutting yourself and making yourself marketable to the low ballers.
Whatever your charging divide by 4, as a freelance that is your REAL hourly wages. So if you're charging $25 per hour you're real hourly wage is $6.25, workers are Burger King earn more.
Charging more will bracket yourself to a better class of client IMHO.

Well, I really would like to install more RAM into my trusty LC
But I can't figure out what is the maximum Apple says 36 MB Most other sites say that But MacTracker says 132 MB is the max, and when I look for the max RAM for the Quadra 605
It says 132
But they have the same Logic Board!
So, what is the true maximum?

Hello,
I got this error last night and I'm still scratching my head about it.

The project runs fine on both iPad and iPhone builds in the simulator and the iPad build works on the device. When I run the iPhone build on the device I get the error. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Nick

I can see them giving it for free with the purchase of their hardware (like find my iPhone is free with the latest iteration of iOS devices) Apple after all is a hardware company.
Giving something that costs billions in servers and man hours for free to everyone doesn't make much sense to me.
I agree. It should be about adding value to your other Apple purchases. (See my comment above.)

My cable bill makes me want to puke.. I'd hold my entertainment spending up against any on this forum..
I'm refusing to buy the latest CRAP-laden disks, possible-broadcast flag-filled broadcasts, and downloads they're trying to shove down our throats in the future... I'm saying if they want to keep my future business at anywhere near my current rates, they better make the future DRM/Crap/etc more like what we have now, or they will loose sales..
How can that NOT be on their RADAR?
Shrug
jwd
What cable services do you have?
If you have digital cable, you're buying into their DRM.
If you have a cable-company supplied DVR, you're buying into their DRM.
You just haven't seen it really get kicked over yet.

You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?
I think Apple's policy allows for users to opt-in to sharing their personal data.
